There is a captivating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not legal. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries aside from the casino, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
