There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel building that features numerous luxuries aside from the casino, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 table games.
