There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.
The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features numerous conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
