There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights many amenities on top of the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
