There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino betting is illegal. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel compound that contains a number of conveniences accompanying the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
