There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, where casino wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, features 150 slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of amenities aside from the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
