There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that features a number of luxuries on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
