There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
